 Malissa Shaw is a medical sociologist working at the intersection of biotechnologies, reproductive health, science and technology studies, and medical education. Her previous research has focused on couples’ and medical professionals’ experiences of utilizing assisted reproductive technologies in Colombia and the agentic ways that women engage with these technologies as they strive to conceive. Furthering her focus on biotechnologies, Malissa’s current research explores medical professionals’ understandings of stem cell research and developing therapies, and the importance they place on teaching the next generation about such development. Malissa has extensive experience teaching qualitative methodology and data collection techniques, introduction to social theory, and social aspects of health.
